North Haven Island Community

Explore North Haven, a unique rural island community in Penobscot Bay. 

91制片厂 on this trip will have the opportunity to explore the island of North Haven, Maine, a vibrant year-round community off the coast of Rockland known for its natural beauty, maritime traditions, and strong conservation values. Participants will connect with local organizations such as North Haven Conservation Partners and Erikson’s Fields to learn about island ecology and sustainability efforts. Accommodation will include access to kitchen and shower facilities.

Note: This trip requires travel on the Rockland Ferry out to North Haven. Please contact mckeenOtrips@bowdoin.edu if traveling by boat is a concern.

Sample Itinerary

Wednesday, August 26: Depart Bowdoin, drive up to the area, and work on a local farm—then take the ferry to North Haven and settle in!

Thursday, August 27: Work on upkeeping trails on the island and then do a project with a local community center!

Friday, August 28: Work with a local commission to upkeep a park on the island, explore North Haven, and go for a swim in the ocean!

Saturday, August 29: Move out of your housing, take the ferry back to the mainland, and return to Bowdoin!
