Understanding Placement Results

Results of your placement surveys have a big impact on your course selections, so let's review what they mean.

How do I see what courses I placed into based on the surveys?

By July 25, 2025, you’ll be able to view your placements:

  1. Log in to , click your photo in the upper-right corner, and select “View Profile.”
  2. Click the Academics menu on the left-hand side of the page, and then visit your "External Records" tab.
    • You may need to click “More” to see this tab.
  3. In the list of 'Test results' click on 'View all' in the  'Bowdoin Placement Test' row to see your placement recommendation(s).  Note that the 'score' is a department designation that allows the recommendation to be displayed under the 'non-numeric value' column in Workday [it does not, for example, indicate the number of correct responses].

Note that the External Record tab is also where you see AP and IB scores that you submitted.

  • If some or all your AP or IB scores are missing, please contact the testing agency (such as College Board) and ask them to release your scores to Bowdoin.
  • Bowdoin policies governing credit for AP and IB scores can be found under Credit for Pre-matriculation Exams.

You may have questions about the placement you recieved. That's okay!

Check the calendar for Zoom drop-in sessions about building saved schedules and using Workday.

Browse the department sections below to find additional information, including Zoom dates and times and links to tip sheets

The department guides and zoom sessions will help you to interpret your placement results. If you received a 'Consult with' placement recommendation, then you will want to attend the Zoom session for that department/program and/or contact the person listed.
