Bowdoin Summer Art Camp is a fully supervised day in the art studio that nurtures creativity, community, and an appreciation for the creative process. No experience or expertise is necessary, just enthusiasm for the process of making art and a willingness to experiment with new ways of expressing creativity. Each session is designed to work as a separate unit, and children may enroll in up to two sessions for the summer. Most camp sessions will take place in the Edwards Center for Art and Dance on the Bowdoin College campus. As weather permits, some sessions will take place outdoors on the campus.

Each year the sessions are organized into three age groups, 6-7, 8-10, and 11-13.  *You may register for the corresponding age group if your child is already the required age OR will be the minimum required age for that group on or before October 15, 2026. We can be flexible depending on maturity level and interest etc.

The camp day is from 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Each day during your student's week-long session there is a different morning and afternoon session for each age group, with a lunch break in between. The goal is to provide a robust art experience with deep engagement and a sense of joy and belonging.

Check out the Art Camp Handbook for more camp information.

2026 sessions will take place during the last four weeks of July.
  • July 6 - 10
  • July 13 - 17
  • July 20 - 24
  • July 27 - 31

Welcome to our 2026 Art Camp Instructors!

Rachel Alexandrou

Hello, I’m Rachel Alexandrou (she/her). I am an interdisciplinary artist who uses my education in plant science to create experiential work about innovating human relationships to the natural landscape. I have been making wreaths and garlands for a decade. My botanical work has been featured at the Venice Biennale, Space Gallery (Portland, ME). I teach foraging and craft workshops around Maine including Haystack Mountain School of Crafts and The Bernard Langlais Preserve and The Seguinland Institute.

Robin Booty (she/her)

Hi! I am Robin Booty, a mountain-raised farm woman from New Hampshire. I have been teaching now for nearly 18 years in early childhood education but have also taught baseball to ages 7-16, helped run acting camps for ages 8-16, and been a coach mentor for teens and young adults. My absolute passion in life is to share my love for nature with all ages, and I am so lucky I get to do that while working in the Friends School of Portland kindergarten program. I have always loved crafting and making art of all kinds and playing around with all sorts of materials and projects. Arts and crafts are something I love to bring and share with others. When I am not teaching, I do a lot of babysitting and nanny work and always have my "Kid Kit," as a kiddo of mine named it years ago, with all sorts of materials and endless possibilities. When not working, you can find me in my garden with my toes in the dirt, reading in my hammock or my corner of the couch, taking care of my chickens, or working on some sewing project.  I am so excited to join the Bowdoin Summer Art Camp this year!

Monique Boutin (she/her)

Sharing in the learning process and finding connections between land, history, art and communities, especially through making art, inspires me. I am a place-based artist and educator based in midcoast Maine who has been grateful to work with young people through hands-on learning and maker spaces in art and natural history museums, teaching at universities, schools, and outdoor education organizations, and coaching young runners in cross country. My background in art includes drawing, painting, photography, video, sculpture, and installation; I enjoy tracing histories of places and materials through research, running, making maps and collaborative archives. I received my MFA in Visual Arts and MA in Art History from Purchase College, State University of New York, and currently live in Wiscasset, where I teach Art & the Natural World at Maine Coast Semester at Chewonki. I hope to meet you this summer at camp!

Megan Campbell (she/her)

I am an educator and all around craft-y person from Maine. I grew up in Portland with a quilter as a father, a scrapbooker as a mother, and two grandmothers that taught me to knit, sew, make flower crowns, and many other crafty things. As an adult, I have expanded my craft interests to include embroidery and paper crafts (particularly making flowers out of tissue and crepe paper). I love trivia, playing board games, checking out Maine restaurants, and kayaking. I live in Portland with my husband, Kevin.

Josie Colt (she/they)

I am a Portland Based artist, educator and community organizer returning to Bowdoin Art Camp for my fourth year! I am passionate about helping people of all ages tap into their inner artist and I am a strong believer that process is just as important as product. I see art as a powerful tool for self-expression and an opportunity to share our stories with each other. My favorite mediums include illustration, sculpture and puppetry. I love making art from recycled materials like cardboard! I am looking forward to making some awesome creations with students at camp this summer.

Ted DeMille (he/him) and Susan Pelis (she/her)

Hi, I am Ted DeMille, a teacher, writer, musician, artist, a veteran of Art Camp for over twenty years. For forty years I have woven music, collage, painting, and drama into the curriculum of my elementary school classes in Massachusetts, Cape Elizabeth, The Center for Teaching and Learning in Edgecomb, Maine, and most recently at 317 Maine Community Music. In 2007, I published the critically praised book Making Believe on Paper for Heinemann Press about how to teach young children to write quality fiction literature. As a musician I have performed all over New England as a member of various roots music bands, and as a solo artist. I have also recorded several compact discs and written over one hundred songs for kids and grown-ups. Currently at 317 I teach Family Classes, ukulele, and guitar to musicians aged one to eighty-one. I will be joined by my trusted partner Susan Pelis. Susan is an experienced teacher and collagist who has collaborated with me at Art Camp for over twenty years. Susan currently teaches second grade in Western Massachusetts and is a skilled practitioner of the Responsive Classroom approach. We can’t wait to meet you and your emerging artists!

Leonid Eichfeld (he/him)

Hello wonderful reader! My name is Leonid Eichfeld (he/him/his) and I am excited to be a teaching artist at Bowdoin Summer Art Camp this year. I am a lifelong artist who was brought up in Southern and Midcoast Maine's vibrant arts community. As a seasoned interdisciplinary educator, I know play, collaboration, and creativity are integral to joyous learning. I am also a member of Inventing Trees puppetry troupe, blending together found object puppet making, community building, and performance arts. In my free time, when I’m not making art, I love exploring outside with friends.

Yasamin Holland (she/her)

I've often said that I have the best job in the world. Teaching art is extremely creative and rewarding. I have fun doing it. At its best, a shared art studio experience offers an exchange of ideas in a way that feels open, joyful, inspiring, motivating, and connective. Art has been a part of my life in every place I’ve lived: New York, Virginia, California, Spain, Arizona, Colorado, and now Maine. I have taught pre-school through high school visual art and arts integration in public, private, and charter school settings. I worked in the education and development departments at the Denver Art Museum and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. I’ve worked as a freelance fashion stylist, designed children’s clothing, homeware, and co-produced a short film featured in Barcelona Arte Contemporaneo’s exhibition La Piel, and co-produced two albums under the name Whitenoise, No More Dystopias and Ruins. When not teaching art or spending time with my family, I love adventure, teaching myself to whittle, and finding simple ways to experience joy in life. I’ve seen firsthand how choice and an emphasis on the creative process help sustain a productive and positive environment. I am passionate about broadening young people’s perceptions of what art is and can be, what creativity is and can be. I have an MA in Educational Psychology from the University of Colorado, Denver and seventeen years of teaching experience. During the school year I teach art at Friends School of Portland. It is a pleasure to return as the director of the Bowdoin Summer Art Camp for the sixth summer, along with an incredible team of artists and educators. I look forward to connecting with you this summer!

Molly Simpson (she/her)

I am an illustrator and former farmer. I love drawing with kids, especially tigers with my nephews, but mostly love to witness a student's creative process. Lately I've been making small hanging quilts of sweet animals and digitally illustrating animals in silly situations to print as greeting cards. I also like growing and eating vegetables, spending as much time outside as possible, and one day hope to make a children’s book. I can't wait to spend a whole week of summer immersed in the Bowdoin Art Camp World.

Alice Webber

Hi everyone, my name is Alice and I am so grateful to be part of the Bowdoin Art Camp community! Most of my life I have leaned on art as the way to ground and center myself. As a kid, I'd steal away from the chaos of our bustling house to hide under my bed and make storybooks, design Barbie clothes, or just draw. After studying Fine Art at SUNY Purchase, I began working in the conservation field and have been able to combine my love of drawing and the outdoors through illustration endeavors and building trails, which I believe is an art form in and of itself. Now as a working mom with a busy family schedule, I cherish the evenings spent on projects, losing all track of time (and staying up way too late). My daughter and I continue our love of exploring new mediums! I hope all our young artists can spend some time this summer drawing because we love the feel of a pen moving across paper, painting with every color because we love to see the whole page covered, and creating the time and space for crafting art because the joy of art is for everyone.
