Becoming a BCSS Instructor

The BCSS embraces interdisciplinarity and welcomes new voices to be part of our program.

Are you interested in being an instructor in the Bowdoin Coastal Studies Semester?

The Bowdoin Coastal Studies Semester (BCSS) is an immersive and interdisciplinary program focused on the study of marine and coastal issues in the Gulf of Maine (GOM). The BCSS consists of field and laboratory research and other work which connects the physical and social sciences with the arts and humanities in the GOM.

The goals for the BCSS are for our students to acquire the ability to:

(1) interpret knowledge from a range of knowledge systems, including disciplinary-/interdisciplinary- and culturally-/community-based systems (2) communicate with and inquire of a diverse range of stakeholders in local to regional science and policy; (3) communicate outcomes of curricular and co-curricular learning experiences; (4) apply knowledge from multiple fields across fields; (5) apply the interconnectivity of coastal communities and environments to new questions.

We have created a new, transparent process to invite faculty to offer current or newly designed courses in the BCSS.
